The United Arab Emirates is situated on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula between 22.5° & 26° N. & between 51° and 56.25° E. Qatar lies to the west & northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west and south and Oman to the north, east and southeast. The Country consists of seven independent Emirates under a federal government: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ra's al- Khaimah and Fujairah. The total area of the United Arab Emirates is 83,600 square kilometers and it has 700 kilometers of coastline, excluding islands, approximately 600 kilometers along the Persian Gulf and 100 kilometers bordering the Gulf of Oman.
